Fourth Of July Was Not The Day Congress Signed The Declaration Of Independence

That’s right, independence was declared on July 2, 1776. The final wording of the Declaration of Independence was done on July 4, 1776, when the Continental Congress approved the final wording.

It was not until 1870, almost 100-years after the Declaration was written, Congress declared July 4 to be a national holiday.

Thomas Jefferson and John Adams passed away on July 4, 1826.
