Man looking at his phone is completely oblivious to the nearby humpback whale surfacing feet away from him in Rodondo, Beach, California in January 2015.
Eric J. Smith, a photographer, saw this unidentified man on and snapped several photos and the man never looked up.
“A small private sailboat maneuvered really close to the whales, and this guy on it was literally sitting in that position and never moved. He could have been texting his mom in the hospital for all I know, but I thought it sucked that he missed such a wonderful moment happening just two feet in front of him.” Smith told ABC News
Whale watching is a big business and people book way in advance to see humpback whales migrating over 20,000 miles a year.
Humpback whales were near extinction in the early 1960’s are returning in numbers.
Humpback whales are protected since 1966.
